The late Mohamed Y. Naggar established Naggar Shipping in 1897 as the first Agency Company to be run by an Egyptian. The company developed rapidly to a major Services Group in all Egyptian, Palestinian, and North African Ports.
In 1943 Mohamed Y. Naggar died and his sons renamed the company to M.Y. Naggar Sons Shipping, and built up their father’s company into the largest Ship Services group in the area. The company became involved in Agency, Stevedoring, Storage, Coastal transport, Barging, Land transport and many other related activities.
In 1961 the M.Y. Naggar Sons Group was nationalized and became a group of public sector companies. Between 1963 and 1969, A.K. Naggar, Mohamed Y. Naggar’s fourth son, made several attempts to rebuild a new company. He finally succeeded in 1969 when he established Naggar Shipping, a small agency built to complement his technical services company Alexandria Superintending, which he established a year earlier.
In 1971, the old name of Naggar Shipping was re-established and A.K. Naggar actively rebuilt the two small companies into a middle-sized group. The group was involved in most shipping and ship service activities as well as many non-shipping related activities such as Hospitals and real estate.
In the mid 1980’s Naggar Shipping introduced a new liner department, which was aimed at serving container lines calling Egyptian ports. By 1990 another subsidiary company, Egyptian Container Services (currently Egyptian Container Line), was established for this purpose. In 1991, A.K. Naggar passed away leaving the group in a sound financial shape and a solid foundation for expansion.

Naggar Shipping saw the first container ship calling Damietta Port, introducing container transshipment for the first time in Egypt and giving birth to Damietta port as major container Hub in the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1995 the first two private sector gantry cranes, owned by the group, were commissioned in Damietta port to boost its capacity by 50% to serve the increasing demand for container handling at this port.
In January 2000, A.K. Naggar & Co. established a new transport division and became the first overall logistics service provider in Egypt with a capital of over 30 million US Dollars. The group continued its development over the years to become today, not just a leading ship services company, but a diversified group involved in various transport and non-transport activities.
Today A.K.Naggar Group consists of 7 companies offering a wide range of transport and all related services all under one roof.
